Our ISPs used to do email like 1-2 decades ago, but not anymore

I lost my ISP-issued mail (an account I've had for over a decade!) sometime in 2018, when they killed their mail service without telling anyone

They also used to do webhosting, but, like, 5MB :D

d|ver: I think that before gmail appeared in the scene, that it wasn't that common to have more decent-ish service for free, so either you had something usable from your ISP or... - but I might well not have the big picture from back then

Telepac/Meo/SAPO probably had it different as an ISP, as they at one point deployed dovecot, and I think PT might even have paid for some development. And I mention this because this year SAPO announced they'd be driving their free webmail into the ground or the dark ages of no POP/IMAP... granted, that's not the same as an ISP account, but it does signal something.

to be fair, they haven't enforced that threat yet. IMAP still works.

by decent-ish I mean a bit more storage, less attachment limits (but I think this is not the case anymore, they now have some ridiculously small limit?), and IMAP, POP, SMTP.

funny thing, I have an AOL account in M&N, over IMAP. That was used in M&N back when the account was created... but that M&N account was using Netscape's proprietary support for AOL's mail :-)
