For some reason my SeaMonkey seems to have forgotten most of its browsing history. When I type something to the address bar, it only suggests very recently visited pages

In Firefox the address bar and its suggestions have been broken for a long time already, so maybe this is caused by some piece of code that has found its way into SeaMonkey from Firefox?

Sompi: firefox's address bar is a mess, I've seen some weird behaviour in fennec, but I see it on windows builds too, seems to be a new set of UI choices there. I think the silliest thing in fennec might be if you have one space in the address, it's handled as a search query. I can type a wikipedia short address, but no, it loads the search engine. And it also doesn't have bookmark keyword search...

a-865: As for SeaMonkey, you mean it forgot even recent browsing history, or just older? I think the default at some point was to keep a bunch of history but not *all*, so older entries would disappear. I think I have that disabled now because it really doesn't play well with "I remember visiting this, why isn't it in history?"; if it's including recent entries, it's possible the places db was discarded

somehow? does history save? what about bookmarks, still all there?

if it doesn't save between runs, I'd say it's probably a writability problem, but IIRC that shows a banner on startup

if bookmarks are all there, it should mean the problem wasn't the places db being discarded, conversely if they're missing, it almost certainly is the problem.

njsg: In beta profile, my history goes back to 2009; In release profile, all tabs were lost several months ago, so it only goes back 39 months.

i got lots of space to index all the old trees but really.. beyond what I have beyond adding a few forks as well i don't see much to be researched and salavged from the gecko2-51 era .. except gecko17's makefile system for reference and MAYBE esr45 cause it was pre-mozconfigure but that's it.. everything we all know or what to know is in our respective trees to some degree or another and they are all newer than the range i said.. soo

also searchfox seems to have been updated to accomidate the git repo structure as well as fractured nature of mozilla-based projects
