for some reason, this new wave of social media (by "new" I mean post-1989) created the idea that one must have a block feature that works in that way, and that's what to use instead of an ignore feature.

which is a bit ironic given how ignore might be a better fit for things like mastodon and twitter than IRC :-P

he's been known to over-react, I suppose it's possible he just gets too much to handle it otherwise?
