Moonchild has deemed anything other than ignorant incompetance and otherwise good intentioned neglegnce as a conspiracy theory.. There is no corperate-political collision and merging happening.. It's just a bug in the system.. nothing to see here
-
nsITobin
Cloudflare is blocking us because its just a misunderstanding or mistake..
-
nsITobin
and don't dare suggest otherwise
-
nsITobin
and the users are crying out for political leadership or at least some form of common understanding about the situation and knowing one isn't just dismissed and considered merely disgruntled.
-
nsITobin
and really my response would be.. Too late.
-
nsITobin
You want to know how Trump and Elon end? Take my situation and apply world wide actual deadly consiquences.. That's how it ends.
-
nsITobin
also more evil than most rich people can buy ..
-
nsITobin
Anyway enough of that jazz.. distracting me from my work and talking about NOT .. that.
-
nsITobin
I am gonna find some GOOD NEWS.. there has to be some SOMEWHERE.
-
tomman
let me be a contrarian
-
tomman
Clownflare IS political
-
tomman
and it's on a war against everybody
-
tomman
also, stop calling them "Cloudflare"
-
tomman
they don't deserve any ounce or gram of respect"
-
tomman
in other news... the media indeed is not interested in our cause :/
-
tomman
hmmm, wonder if Phoronix would be interested
-
tomman
...nah, the place loves developer drama
-
tomman
especially if Rust is involved
-
frg_Away
rust and the linux kernel seem to go along well currently .... :)
-
nsITobin
I wouldn't hate rust so much if rust was avoidable..
-
nsITobin
but its part of the monoculture.. only one typesafe binary langauge and its rust.. c/c++ is just legacy
-
nsITobin
like python is the ONLY solution for scripting and serverside web and js is the only solution client side
-
nsITobin
rust could be the greatest thing in the world and solve everyone's problems including mine and I'd still resist because its being forced.
-
nsITobin
in rust's weight class its only real compeditor is go.. rust is NOT a replacement for c++ it's a C++ framework.
-
frg_Away
I don't really hate rust. I find it just too abstract and suspect rust source will become a maintanence desaster in the future. And the statically linked crate concept is imho dll version hell in a static fold.
-
nsITobin
it's libxul
-
nsITobin
in concept
-
nsITobin
and we know how much that has caused issues for everyone.. I should love rust.. rust is pure Mozilla design.. except.. wrong era ;)
-
frg_Away
I consider myself a second rate programmer and rust is way over my head. Would need a few months of peace and quiet to even trying to tackle and understand it.
-
nsITobin
I don't consider my self a programmer.. I am a coder at best.. designer at worse..
-
nsITobin
the secret plan has always been to work around being a crap programmer by structuring and infra'ing solutions so everyone else can code.. not much of a secret.. maybe not much of a plan but its all mine LOL
-
frg_Away
gitlab wip updated
-
nsITobin
the fact I am learning more and more code and devlopment must mean the plan isn't working.. oh well it isn't much of a plan.. not like the stuff I am coding up ;)
-
nsITobin
... I'll be a programmer I GUESS
-
nsITobin
ah what's new in WIP *goes to check*
-
frg_Away
SpiderMonkey is now at start of 69 nightly in wip. Needs more backports till I can tackle reinintegrate optional chaining and new regexp. I also left out a bunch of patches which might bite us later or not.
-
frg_Away
BigInt and dyamic modules in and es fields work in progress
-
frg_Away
But test 262 suite does not crash :)
-
nsITobin
is single rhelm per compartment gonna cause any extension issues?
-
frg_Away
Don't think so. The compartment is basically the realm. I left out most of the multirealm and global stuff. NoScript und uBlock still work as do our extensions. But needs testing for sure.
-
frg_Away
addon compartment is also still in. Removal of this broke stuff badly.
-
nsITobin
frg_Away: sorry, breakfast happened, I'll over the next day or two when not php'ing will collect a selection of extensions beyond noscript and otehr content blockers to be for thrash-testing with in a real-worldish but not MY personal setup
-
nsITobin
what I need to do is actually scrape atbn before it's too late
-
carl
hello folks
-
carl
just had a quick question. I am trying to watch videos on youtube and the resolution is stuck on 360p for some reason without any options to change it...
-
carl
has anyone else had this issue?
-
nsITobin
hi carl
-
carl
hi there!
-
nsITobin
did you try twiddling with a UA Override for the tube of yous?
-
carl
UA override?
-
carl
sorry not sure what that means
-
nsITobin
That's ok.. let me load up a new seamonkey instance and visit youtube see what it is doing
-
nsITobin
carl: what version? 2.53.20?
-
nsITobin
and OS
-
carl
v. 2.53.20
-
carl
os debian linux 12

Under graphics Decision log what does it say?
-
AxelS
Hello, I installed a fresh SeaMonkey on Window$ (24H2) but some sites are chrashing SeaMonkey like wer-weiss-was.de and I don't but why. SeaMonkey does not responding...
-
nsITobin
HW_COMPOSITING and OMTP specifically
-
nsITobin
AxelS: Please hold on the line. Your call is very importan to us. *hold music*
-
nsITobin
:P
-
carl
will have a look hold on
-
carl
HW_COMPOSITING
-
carl
blocked by default: Acceleration blocked by platform
-
carl
OPENGL_COMPOSITING

carl

-
carl
OMTP
-
nsITobin
that's good
-
carl
disabled by default: Disabled by default
-
nsITobin
well expected
-
carl
no idea what any of this means...
-
carl
brb gotta shovel another 15cm of snow off the driveway... we in the 51st state lol.... right?
-
nsITobin
that's ok, it means for one you aren't getting HW acceleration I have prefs you can try to get that enabled.. if it doesn't have issues with your gfx card.. after that we can see if maybe you have missing media libs
-
nsITobin
if acceleration works and you have media libs Youtube should serve higher than 320p video AND run decently well and not be a CPU hog.. but it IS down to your video card drivers and support
-
nsITobin
I checked on kernel 6.10.x with an EL8 userspace current release and youtube is acting .. well for a change on my end.
-
nsITobin
AxelS: so crashing websites.. is it related to recent Cloudflare issues?
-
AxelS
I don't know...
-
nsITobin
so does it instacrash?
-
nsITobin
seems to work on linux
-
AxelS
It seems to load scripts or similar and SeaMonkey is crashing, no responseing...
-
AxelS
I was wondering that SeaMonkey is crashing, it's the latest version...
-
nsITobin
yeah i see it.. i'd have to do a build and get visual studio going.. ublock was on cause wrong window
-
AxelS
On other browsers, no problem
-
nsITobin
AxelS: define "other browsers"
-
nsITobin
anyway yeah on linux it is locking up too
-
nsITobin
since the channel is logged it will be noted AxelS
-
AxelS
Firefox, Edge and many more have no problems ;-)
-
nsITobin
firefox and edge covers everything modern that's important
-
nsITobin
anything other than safari is redundant
-
AxelS
OK
-
nsITobin
well firefox and any one chrome browser.. then add seamonkey and something UXP based and that is your basic lot..
-
nsITobin
hey the watchdog DID eventually kick in to allow you to stop the script
-
nsITobin
what do you know
-
nsITobin
oh the unresponsive script box is unresponsive
-
nsITobin
yep this is one of THOSE
-
nsITobin
AxelS
-
nsITobin
and back and was able to stop it
-
nsITobin
grab you some ublock seems to block the offending script by default
-
AxelS
I think so, a script will be loading and it doesn't work to stop... I try again ;-)
-
nsITobin
i managed it but it is just instinct on timing and behavior of a xul app when it does this.. takes practice
-
carl
cpu hog for sure it's so slow man
-
carl
dunno mate i'm using this link
-
carl
-
AxelS
I think, external scripts are chrashing for "wer-weiss-was.de" SeaMonkey...
-
carl
is there any way to turn hardware acceleration on? maybe this would help
-
nsITobin
carl: let me get you some prefs..
-
nsITobin
layers.acceleration.enabled layers.acceleration.force-enabled layers.force-active layers.omtp.enabled webgl.force-enabled webgl.msaa-force
-
nsITobin
set each to true in about:config
-
nsITobin
carl:
-
carl
ok let me give it a go.
-
nsITobin
restart seamonkey after setting all those
-
carl
layers.acceleration.enabled
-
nsITobin
now if you start getting strange black boxes you will have to flip them back off manually in your profile
-
nsITobin
flip them all true
-
carl
i only see forced enabled
-
nsITobin
then right click and add new bool pref
-
nsITobin
if it doesn't exist
-
carl
okie! so... then you just exit afterwards? no need to click save anywhere?
-
carl
brb
-
carl
hello folks
-
nsITobin
check about:support see if the decision log and navigate to a few sites not youtube see if it is stable
-
nsITobin
Compositing at the top should say OpenGL and decision log should note the overrides
-
nsITobin
ignore WEBRENDERER
-
nsITobin
it is not used
-
nsITobin
for fun paste the description for GPU #1
-
nsITobin
too
-
carl
compositing says OPENGL
-
nsITobin
yay
-
nsITobin
does it seem stable no black squares or artifacts?
-
nsITobin
when you open context or menubar menus browse point click on webpages

-
carl
how can I turn acceleration on ... browser is painfully slow.. also no option to go beyond 360p
-
nsITobin
it IS on now
-
carl
oh my bad..
-
nsITobin
Linux has historically iffy support for gfx acceleration and mozilla was cautious about it
-
carl
gotcha.. welp... still can't get beyond 360p can I send a photo?
-
nsITobin
NOW what does media say for audio backend just under what you pasted should be pulse or maybe pipewire-pulse
-
nsITobin
don't need to paste it
-
carl
gotcha.
-
carl
pulse-rust
-
nsITobin
gross but .. correct
-
carl
gross?
-
carl
maybe disable add ons? see if that helps?
-
carl
er... safe mode?
-
nsITobin
nevermind.. oh youtube removed the html5 testing check.. which told you what video formats you support
-
nsITobin
nah
-
carl
it did? ugh. i'm guessing it's a video formatting problem.. I have the same issue in opera browser, youtube vids don't even load
-
carl
maybe missing codecs?
-
nsITobin
yeah
-
carl
-
nsITobin
but i don't know if its libav or gstreamer ..
-
carl
hm... let me give that a shot and report back....
-
nsITobin
it just worked for me LOL
-
carl
libav?
-
nsITobin
ffmpeg whatever has that in it
-
nsITobin
but yeah codecs
-
carl
is there a test site to see if my codecs are running by da browser?
-
nsITobin
but of course codecs will run like crap without acceleration so that is why I had you do that first
-
nsITobin
carl: used to be
-
nsITobin
youtube removed it
-
nsITobin
i dunno off hand of any
-
nsITobin
drag media files into the browser
-
nsITobin
that will do it
-
nsITobin
if it supports it it will play it not try and download it
-
carl
so codecs are software driven? and... youtube uses html5 and seamonkey opelgl is hardware driven? sorry i'm not an expert brb
-
nsITobin
likely they need gstreamer
-
nsITobin
carl: gstreamer
-
nsITobin
make sure you have it
-
carl
well. didn't work unfortunately
-
nsITobin
then maybe it magically works
-
carl
gstreamer?
-
nsITobin
yeah dunno debian's packages but should be in there
-
carl
gstreamer-qapt gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad
-

-
nsITobin
you're gonna flood out
-
carl
which one there are so many
-
carl
my bad, not sure what the proper etiquette is on these chats, I haven't used IRC since 1995
-
Ximo
anything over 3 lines (if even that) you generally wanna "pastebin" or equivalent
-
nsITobin
hasn't changed much carl
-
carl
ah ok, will do that next time my bad
-
nsITobin
it doesn't bother me so much but the network may autokick you
-
carl
so which one do I install? maybe it will work after that who knows
-
nsITobin
libav
-
nsITobin
and whatever deps it pulls in
-
nsITobin
SHOULD do it
-
nsITobin
we hope
-
nsITobin
and various plugins
-
carl
already installed
-
nsITobin
bad is ok it is just bad as in not-free
-
nsITobin
in the debian sense
-
carl
HAHA!
-
carl
ok lets try install gstreamer* maybe?
-
nsITobin
sure why no
-
nsITobin
not
-
carl
terminal losing its mind, brb
-
carl
250mb of madness
-
carl
brb
-
carl
oof.... doesn't work
-
carl
any other ideas
-
carl
i installed w64codecs_20071007-dmo2_amd64.deb
-
nsITobin
check on debian forums and venues maybe unless someone here has more experience.. I didn't have to go hunting for media deps for seamonkey cause other stuff already pulled them in
-
nsITobin
does debian not package seamonkey and set proper dependancies?
-
carl
i don't think so I had to install the package separately.. as it isn't included on the distrubution
-
frg_Away
doubleclick ad serving code locks it up. No problem with uBlock and NpScript. Otherwise goes into a hard loop sucking up cpu an memory.
-
carl
maybe some dependencies are missing? but.. probably not otherwise it wouldn't install seamonkey to begin with?
-
carl
the auto update feature works too so.. no idea
-
AxelS
On the latest Kubuntu, there's the same bug with as example "wer-weiss-was.de"... SeaMonkey is crashing again...
-
carl
any other ideas?
-
carl
i tried opera browser, same issue only 360p allowed
-
carl
the only browser that works properly at 1080p is vivaldi
-
nsITobin
AxelS: yeah frg says its doubleclick serving up bad js
-
nsITobin
before he left
-
tomman
so that's the new strategy to block "niche" browsers? Serving broken JS recursive loops that will eventually cause your web browser to run out of resources?
-
tomman
oh wow, the hate from the industry is intense
-
nsITobin
we can't be sure THAT isn't just shitty javascript
-
nsITobin
from doubleclick.. they WANT people to see their ads
-
nsITobin
just how google ads keep working in everything possible
-
tomman
well, Doubleclick is Google Ads, so... yeah, they won't stop trying
-
tomman
thankfully those pests get zapped here even before they enter my LAN with DNS blocks, but they will keep trying over and over..
-
nsITobin
well unless the hate is overriding the ad business yeah
-
nsITobin
but what do I know.. I am just a browser toolbar
-
tomman
soon: Clownflare will run their own ad busines
-
nsITobin
CF may buy Mozilla..
-
nsITobin
once Mozilla's ad business is going
-
tomman
oof, that's cruel :D
-
nsITobin
Cloudflare Browser
-
tomman
I had completely forgotten that Mozilla is _now_ an ad biz
-
nsITobin
as a paid browser free with paid service.. and Mozilla Firefox the open source end..
-
nsITobin
that's bullshit speculation based on jack point shit but would it surprise you?
-
tomman
at this point in this brave new screwed up world, ANYTHING is possible
-
tomman
as someone said today on the Internet: "If Trump just got elected for a second term, then I believe anything"
