nsITobin
SO.. I been practicing my hg skills.. I have exported a git repo's patches and I have made em a patch queue .. to practice
-
nsITobin
merges are gonna be an issue
-
nsITobin
it seems
-
nsITobin
well this is a large repo 7000 some commits i am up to 1722 excluding merges.. i have no idea if the working directory result of the patch queue will end up the same as the origin repo and I won't know for some days as this is some work lol..
-
nsITobin
and i am not soley doing just it
-
nsITobin
anyway.. the seas calm and I rest :P
-
nsITobin
good morning
-
nsITobin
k.. git is actually kinda terrible
-
nsITobin
because there is like zero way to actually take a long running repo with merges and export that to something that can be recreated by an inital state and patch files
-
nsITobin
it's annoying to find that aspect of a key tool.. yeah sure git works well enough as long as you commit to git, its ways, and never attempt to stray cause lol you can't...
-
nsITobin
morning the WG9s, how goes it?
-
WG9s
going OK sort of. still trying to get c-c windows builds to work relibly
-
nsITobin
thunder-rust still giving you issues?
-
nsITobin
need to do a once over and give you guys the patches to land my cc devtools patch cause I also incorperated --chrome into it temporarily removing it from its normal location to the devtools clh and with the mc top patch to unblock ./mach run and deal with nulldllwhatsit so cc seamonkey can technically run
-
WG9s
nsITobin: yes if requires a sync the thing i wrote to try to do the resync locally seems to be deficient
-
nsITobin
WG9s: don't be too hard on your self.. rust is inhearently deficient
-
WG9s
i added a cargo update to se if that would help now need to wait till next time a sync is required to test it sufficiently
-
nsITobin
they really do want you to clear and recreate your env every single instance..
-
nsITobin
fits with automation and such but the end user not so much
-
WG9s
if this does not work i will change it to just test if mach tb-rust check-upstream says need a sync and then exit with an error instead of trying to fix it locally
-
nsITobin
i feel your struggle.. the crap mozilla has pulled that has trickled downstream in making it very difficult to build the code let alone fork it .. except MAYBE in the narrow scope of contributing to Firefox specifically its a damned nightmare i have found compared to the simplicity of saying HAY you need these libs on linux or mozillabuild on windows
-
nsITobin
and maybe visual studio dx and the windows sdk
-
nsITobin
get the nearly 100% working proceedure, write it down, share it, get everyone familar with it.. then figure out how to make it actually not terrible.. seems to be my main flow lol
-
WG9s
nsITobin: taht is why my cript (which currently seems to deficient) is posrte here
gitlab.com/frg/seamonkey-stuff/-/bl…pts/check-tb-rust.sh?ref_type=heads
-
nsITobin
yeah I added all those patch repos and that repo to the mirror org on BinOC/Code one because gitlab doesn't make discoverability very easy and two when it fetches changes they show up on my dashboard
-
nsITobin
the real reason is I keep forgetting which is which and where they are
-
nsITobin
also gogs works in seamonkey where gitlab and heptapod don't atm
-
nsITobin
-
nsITobin
it's fast, effiencent, looks decent enough and works across multiple rendering and javascript engines
-
nsITobin
WG9s: just use chicago time for me ;)
-
nsITobin
binoc-central timezone
-
nsITobin
lol
-
WG9s
but are you in the US or in Canada?
-
WG9s
if you are in teh us i wnder why i got the iea you were in Canada.
-
WG9s
but still i was tring to tell frg that I thouhgt one of the reasons you and tomman sometimes conversed so much on the $SeaMonkey channel was because fo timezone sloseness
-
WG9s
closeness
-
WG9s
nsITobin: us Boston Red Sox and Patriots fans really hate trying to list our timezone as Ney york because of OS peoples stupidity.
-
nsITobin
I am in the great state of Texas
-
nsITobin
used to be in Indiana
-
nsITobin
WG9s: frankly I think timezones and morning night noon and dinner time became .. optional constructs the moment the electric light was in wide use.. so I often ignore concepts like a work day and evening and look at it as just a contiguous effort to progress mah life for the good of most of us.
-
nsITobin
A lifestream in search of a server lol
-
nsITobin
my personal concept of "cyberspace" isn't virtual reality but a mindset to see everything as a stream of data over time .. when I fully was in this timezones didn't matter only if i was awake or not to witness the events that unfold
-
nsITobin
and of course what I could do to help
-
nsITobin
hey didn't mozilla/extensions used to have some special thingamabob so you could do --enable-extensions=inspector,debugqa or whatever?
-
frg_Away
nsITobin was removed. Now we have separate enable statements
-
nsITobin
couldn't we wire comm/suite/extensions to do the same thing?
-
nsITobin
would save on configure args
-
frg_Away
I am happy as is. You need to cvonvince IanN_Away :)
-
frg_Away
ac_add_options --enable-debugqa
-
frg_Away
ac_add_options --enable-irc
-
frg_Away
ac_add_options --enable-dominspector
-
frg_Away
Find the current setup more clear but ymmv
-
nsITobin
the reason it popped in my head was I was looking at a way of restandardizing building extensions that I or others would fork
-
nsITobin
well those are more like components still being treated as extensions at this point right?
-
nsITobin
DOMi especially I see as essentual as devtools is.. slightly more actually.
-
frg_Away
nsITobin yes DOMi is removed from central debugqa only build in beta and cZ is integrated later.
-
frg_Away
Calendar is enabled by defaultand I would rather integrate it and cZ too like in central
-
nsITobin
yeah DOMi especially with shift+rightclick on central would be game changing but unless we can come up with HOW mozilla converted their bindings to xul custom elements at the very least.. devtools just have to suffice
-
nsITobin
and I still fear the domi at the end won't be any better than devtools even if we could convert it
-
nsITobin
frg_Away: Do you know how you make a suite on central the cheap way? wait for thunderbird to do it and add a browser to it.
-
nsITobin
but if you would like better integration of former extensions that is work that is up my skillset
-
nsITobin
-
nsITobin
I mean I know what it is but why did they do it this way
-
frg_Away
wasn't this removed from mozilla-xxx long ago?
-
nsITobin
what?
-
nsITobin
-
nsITobin
but i forgot .. gtk3
-
nsITobin
i do notice something strange
-
nsITobin
the doorhangers are not responding properly to say installing a theme .. it is assuming all themes are restartless
-
tomman
mriguide.com/order there should be a form there, instead it's a stupidly short page
-
tomman
oh, but their keyboard event shenanigans to disable hotkeys like F12 work top notch!
-
nsITobin
tomman: what timezone you in anyway
-
tomman
VET -04:00
-
tomman
16:55 right now here
-
nsITobin
yeah so we are in a close timezone
-
nsITobin
do you have daylight stupid time?
-
nsITobin
there?
-
tomman
ha, no
-
tomman
the closest we've had to DST was when Chavez forced us to a weird -04:30 timezone since 2008
-
tomman
then Maduro abolished that in 2017 or so, returning us to -04:00
-
tomman
(both times motivated to our electricity crisis)
-
nsITobin
swear to god i will end up embedding mozilla into mozilla to get mozilla to mozilla
-
nsITobin
it's only a matter.. of.. time...
-
tomman
YO DAWG
-
nsITobin
tomman: yep exactly
-
nsITobin
why is my irc under from an IP block registered to Microsoft Corperation?
-
nsITobin
they REALLY don't want me doing x11.. christ
-
njsg
I'm still puzzled as to how shifting time helps with electricity usage, I'd say what's not used on one end ends up being used on the other end of the day
-
nsITobin
how does it help the farmers?
-
nsITobin
and how many kids have been run over by schoolbuses because the timezone lines are geographically sloppy as fuck
-
njsg
in small latitudes it may help people with having daylight outside, but even then a bit of the same thing: it'd make more sense to move some operations around the clock as needed
-
nsITobin
end daylight stupid time
-
njsg
look, having seen days when it was dark at 2 PM, I don't buy much into the "farmers" or "energy" arguments :-P
-
nsITobin
I feel strongly about this .. also because as a former indiana resident.. I didn't have DST most of my life and the damn world didn't collapse or my activities restricted anymore than there just being less hours of light overall half the year
-
njsg
now having a wider agreement about what to do is sensible. EU has had a good system in place: not only same dates for the change, it changes *once*, same time for everybody
-
nsITobin
just cause everyone does it doesn't mean its not still an issue or plain dumb lol
-
njsg
nsITobin: re: embedding mozilla, maybe go with the car/cdr repetition notation, with the number of "ll" determining how deep you're into the recursion
-
nsITobin
look at the world today lol
-
njsg
mozilllllla for "mozilla into mozilla into mozilla"
-
nsITobin
mozilla at absolute zero
-
nsITobin
remote xul is actually secure at absolute zero
-
nsITobin
prove me wrong
-
njsg
is it secure at v>c too?
-
nsITobin
no of course not.. XUL can never be faster than the speed of light.. xpcom is too slow
-
nsITobin
lol
-
njsg
and me here thinking it's because in order to reach said speed, mass would have to reach infinity :-P
-
nsITobin
no it would collpase in on its self and start spitting out activex widgets
-
nsITobin
but only on linux
-
njsg
"Come to the speed of light, we've got MS Agent"
-
njsg
# Appears as LINKS
-
nsITobin
njsg: lol
-
nsITobin
njsg: this patch is incomplete
dpaste.org/BaLKB
-
nsITobin
so this makes it the... i dunno fifth time I have done it since NeilForeverAway removed the option instead of letting me fix it.. I am getting good but I am sure I am forgetting some things
