AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) is an open, royalty-free image file format specification for storing images or image sequences compressed with AV1 in the HEIF container format.[1][2] It competes with HEIC, which uses the same container format built upon ISOBMFF, but HEVC for compression. Version 1.0.0 of the AVIF specification was finalized in February 2019.

you had me until "AV1"
-
CaptainTobin
h264 is fine enough
-
CaptainTobin
njsg: unless you wanna go back to divx
-
njsg
so it's okay to serve piles and piles of JS and CSS, but heavens forbid if an image has a few more KiBs
-
CaptainTobin
maybe install the klite codec pack
-
njsg
I think AV1 is the one taking the encoding hardware requirements up to 11 or am I misremembering?
-
CaptainTobin
njsg: but minified
-
CaptainTobin
its ok cause minified
-
njsg
did you mean: "unreadable and hard to debug because whitespace is expensive"?
-
franstam
more like unreadable and hard to debug so dont fire me else nobody else can do my job

okay after a cursory review of the styles and elements both cavendish sourced and seamonkey orginal.. I am confident (perhaps with a little wayback machining as well) synthisize an add-ons site frontend that would match the style you have.
-
CaptainTobin
kairo apperently called it artemia .. and it has cavendish elements.. so its brine shrimp bananas

I love how flexable the BinOC v28 design is.. first it was thereisonlyxul.org and now it is morphin' into seamonkey..

still needs font metrix changed and some more styling and I need that sidebar as well..
-
ContributorTobin
commandbar gradient needs more work as well .. not a simple 2 color it seems..

Wouldn't that 7 million $ per year be already enough to pay a team of full-time software developers for developing a web browser...
-
njsg
let me guess, that's about MZLA?
-
Sompi
yes

Sompi
also it's interesting how the common thing between those people who ruin good things intentionally seems to always be the woke ideology
-
njsg
it might make more sense to see this as some clueless person trying to pick ideas that are "in" to promote as part of some corporate strategy
-
njsg
I'm not even sure it'd make sense to see it the way you put it, because then surely they'd have seen *hordes* of people opposing AI in everything and advertising and tracking

greetings frg_Away njsg tomman and everyone else

frg_Away
ContributorTobin hi
-
ContributorTobin
I have got to upgrade your domi with my enhancements at some point.. Yes when I am webdeving I fall back to DOM Inspector, the real one.
-
frg_Away
I need to go back to stylo after js . Not looking forward to it.
-
ContributorTobin
You have my respect for sacrafising your life to an inferior rust style system.
-
ContributorTobin
Liberation Sans.. seems like I should be able to easily find that webfont
-
ContributorTobin
ah I see Verdana or sans-serif
-
ContributorTobin
nice
-
frg_Away
well first you boast that you were able to remove x lines of code because of rust and then you add x lines x 100 in dependencies. Yeah sucsess!
-
ContributorTobin
frg_Away: after I learn C i will learn rust. I promise. C first.. C is the lifeblood of systems programming no matter what others try and do.
-
ContributorTobin
frg_Away: does it surprise you that a language that requires that was created by an organization seemingly obsessed with filling development time with busy work
-
ContributorTobin
instead of development
-
ContributorTobin
it creates an atmosphere of prioritising how MUCH you do rather than how IMPORTANT what you do is
-
ContributorTobin
I don't need an extensive testing framework with continuous integration of 40 megalibs of js on top of a dozen python dependancies to make an add-ons site .. I just need a few specialized bits, some basic coding, and a few common libraries.
-
ContributorTobin
also being a web designer helps cause you can do a complete thing

Rust's biggest problem are the maintainers of the language and its official compiler...
-
ContributorTobin
and the language
-
Sompi
They just want to break things because their ideology says so. They don't want to develop a sustainable platform for others to write programs
-
ContributorTobin
sometimes it does feel like systamatic sabotage
-
ContributorTobin
and there are some out for it.. but the real issue always remains the majority of people who just agree with whatever everyone else is agreeing with.. this is how crap like this happens..
-
ContributorTobin
it is easier to agree with someone in the role of expert or professional than it is to look into it yourself and go.. screw this nonsense.
-
ContributorTobin
i also get the feeling as things old have been demystified a pushback is happening to remystify how technology is supposed to work or just make it so complex and convoluted no one can be bothered
-
ContributorTobin
then we are back to just agreeing
-
ContributorTobin
Sompi: also add in languages and systems requiring far more work and complexity than is needed basically fueling a self sustaining endless refactoring endless fixes endless work and an endless paycheck i guess..
-
ContributorTobin
stuff is simply not allowed to be mostly set for maintaince, enhancement, tweaks, and focus be on new problems.. we have to constantly be refactoring, reevaluating, recontextualizing, and rehashing the same old stuff over and over and over again.
-
ContributorTobin
and a majority seems imposed for no good reason.
-
ContributorTobin
-
ContributorTobin
I been using XUL too long.. my damn template seems as skinnable as a xul application

least with "liquid" layouts the sidebar can be on the left where it belongs.. my centered layours sidebars on the left don't look as good unless it is global.. for a sidebar that is not always there I prefer right sidebars
-
njsg
CaptainTobin: Liberation Sans shouldn't even need to be loaded as a webfont at least on systems with traces of freedesktop. BUT I think the webfont system is such that you have to explicitly force it to load a font from the local system.
-
njsg
I don't know why is that and I think that's a huge shortcoming, but maybe I've just managed to miss the right way to do it?
-
CaptainTobin
njsg: i figured it out.. MOST fonts are set to verdana and sans
-
CaptainTobin
only
-
CaptainTobin
I am linux so liberation sans is the deemed default sans font i guess.. need to change that
-
CaptainTobin
since verdana is the shit.. I have the deja vu webfont playing the star
-
CaptainTobin
love me some verdana
-
njsg
okay, which one is the default here
-
njsg
DejaVu Sans?
-
njsg
or so says fc-match
-
CaptainTobin
DejaVu webfont would be the default for the layout I code up falling back to of course Verdana and sans if webfonts are turned off
-
njsg
I often switch to Adobe Helvetica for sans-serif when I find a webpage is not so easy to read :-D
-
CaptainTobin
on the actual site its Verdana with sans fallback except like 2 things where it is arial
-
CaptainTobin
njsg: that is plenty decent enough to start making it work wouldn't you say
