-
tomman
the entire support site is now a SPA, wonderful

I'm glad I just bought a Dell laptop instead

need to scavenge my instructions on how to integrate it with Debian
-
tomman
and turns out my instructions were for Firefox, on Debian Wheezy, over 10 years old, and some steps no longer apply

HP broke something? Did they host the website on one of their consumer laptops?
-
tomman
HP drank the JavaScript kool-aid. HARD.

<+tomman> Hating Products™ < MattATobin> Hefty Paperweight <-- I thought long-standing practice was "Heater Products"
-
tomman
speaking of Hateful Pieces, turns out that what was wrong with this Prodesk 600 G2 Desktop Mini was... a dead CMOS battery
-
njsg
tomman: what does "Debian" mean here, integration also with some DE?
-
tomman
turns out this will cause the PC to go very angry when plugged, power on and bootlop
-
tomman
--bootloop
-
njsg
tomman: does that one at least let you set the time in the BIOS setup?
-
tomman
njsg: basically, DE integration
-
tomman
Well, after a few bootloops it MAY let you enter the BIOS and adjust things
-
tomman
but once you unplug it from power... it will power on on its own and bootloop AGAIN as soon as you replug power
-
njsg
tomman: at one point GNOME started requiring desktop entry files, setting the associations from within seamonkey will create some icon-less desktop entries, no idea if that's a suitable starting point
-
tomman
paste.debian.net/1320070 these are my latest instructions

-
tomman
20 years later there is still a lot of black magic, voodoo, and fairy dust behind those DE integration bits
-
njsg
(setting the associations will also set protocol and filetype associations the freedesktop way)
-
tomman
for example on some setups, integrating with MATE may involve a few logoff-logon cycles for things to stick
-
njsg
(doesn't set the other ways such as env variables, though; but from what I've seen, freedesktop doesn't seem to care much about that)
-
tomman
while on others It Just Works™ at the first try
-
njsg
(also, what I mean really is, going to the settings to create file association does create these .desktop files. Short ones, maybe it depends on the DE.)
-
njsg
my notes include:
-
njsg
xdg-settings set default-web-browser seamonkey.desktop
-
njsg
xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler mailto seamonkey.desktop
-
njsg
which probably can be used to check if the value has been correctly set too

njsg: what do I call my new Add-ons Site Software?
