ChipMaster
Hi guys! Is there anyway to transfer "logins" from FF to SM?
-
CoordinatorTobin
ChipMaster: depends
-
CoordinatorTobin
overall the answer is no
-
CoordinatorTobin
but if conditions are correct.. it can be done anyway
-
CoordinatorTobin
biggest factor is the reletive closeless of the profiles between the two applications
-
njsg_
I'm not sure about the password storage file format
-
ChipMaster
What are the "correct conditions"?
-
CoordinatorTobin
and the actual nss format stored
-
CoordinatorTobin
back in the day this was tivial because everyone was all basically using the same versions if not identical code state everyone else was
-
CoordinatorTobin
now it is harder
-
CoordinatorTobin
in general profiles are not backwards compatible but what version of firefox are you trying to come from and do you perhaps have an earlier backup
-
ChipMaster
I'm moving from FF 102, which has "version: 3" in the JSON file. I notice SM has 2.
-
CoordinatorTobin
it is not JUST signons.json
-
njsg_
best case is backup profile then copy key/login files over; not sure if master password needs to be cleared first if set (just the password) and then it would magically work
-
CoordinatorTobin
but also key8/9.db
-
ChipMaster
And... no any earlier backup would likely need to be years earlier.
-
frg_Away
copy logins.json key4.db and cert9.db from your profile. Not sure if the current versions are compatible but you will find out. Do a backup in all cases.
-
CoordinatorTobin
ChipMaster: isn't there an extension to export and import passwords?
-
njsg_
but I doubt we're at best case, problem here is indeed versions
-
njsg_
CoordinatorTobin: well, at this point, it'd probably have to be two :-\
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: yeah i was GETTING to that just offering background warnings i been too effectively trained by
-
njsg_
I mean, to export in webext-only-firefox...
-
ChipMaster
I can export CSV from FF. I saw mentions of an extension to export. I did not find anything mentioning import.
-
frg_Away
ChipMaster there was some discussion in mozillaZine.
-
CoordinatorTobin
the Pale Moon version may work in SM
-
njsg_
ChipMaster: "import" in this case would most likely be 1) close SeaMonkey 2) copy files over to your profile, replacing existing (or move existing elsewhere first) 2) start SeaMonkey again
-
CoordinatorTobin
and read from the webex export
-
njsg_
and then hopefully it'd be all "imported"
-
CoordinatorTobin
yes manual profile mangling in this case is best chance for success like frg_Away said try key9.db/cert9.db/logins.json
-
frg_Away
key4
-
CoordinatorTobin
(used to be key8 and signons.sqlite before json signons
-
CoordinatorTobin
sorry
-
CoordinatorTobin
key 3 and cert 8 or key4 and cert9
-
ChipMaster
frg_Away: since SM creates key3... would it even look for a key4?
-
CoordinatorTobin
ignore older 8 and 4 and any signons.sqlite JUST 9 4 and logons.son
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: did mozilla not ever clean up the old profile files?
-
ChipMaster
Well... this looks like a non-starter, but I'll give this a try and report back. I have disconnect to do this...
-
CoordinatorTobin
k.. frg_Away we are gonna add a damned guide with screenshots and links and i am gonna put it on that resource site
-
CoordinatorTobin
for 8 years this question has been asked over and over
-
CoordinatorTobin
with our collective fractured state profile mangiling and forcing interop is gonna be a key thing some will want to do
-
CoordinatorTobin
so I think a series of posts explaining the mozilla profile and what elements CAN be mangled in and out and what .. RESOURCES are available for data import and export
-
CoordinatorTobin
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PERFECT THING TO BE WRITING ON THAT XUL SITE I RUN
-
CoordinatorTobin
i mean the last time anyone wrote any technical details on the mozilla profile sitauation between forks was.. Me. 3 years ago.
-
CoordinatorTobin
also with how programs and newer operating systems are trying to lock your data down and control it.. getting your crap in and our of our resective forks and projects as well as Firefox its self will be key to us all
-
CoordinatorTobin
what do you say frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
ChipMaster: how did it go?
-
ChipMaster
Well, I'll be switched! It worked.
-
CoordinatorTobin
now hold on
-
CoordinatorTobin
add remove and change passwords
-
CoordinatorTobin
to make sure the db is functioning ok
-
frg_Away
CoordinatorTobin My problem is time and better lack of it. Wanted to do more docunetation for some time again. My VS20xx setup guides are also forever work in progress
-
ChipMaster
What I can't figure out: I know when I first tried moving "logins.json" my SM profile had key3.db. But when I looked this time it had key4.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i have personally seen small glitches happen which is why historically i wouldn't assist with frankenprofiles
-
CoordinatorTobin
like i said before you deem success
-
njsg_
but from what I understand ChipMaster was starting with a new profile
-
CoordinatorTobin
add remove and change a password and restart several times
-
CoordinatorTobin
just to make sure it is a-ok
-
ChipMaster
Will do!
-
njsg_
well, not new as of today, but recently new, given the Chatzilla issue
-
frg_Away
ChipMaster nss update. key3 and cert8 should be removed if still there.
-
ChipMaster
And, yes, njsg_, this is a freshish SM install.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i just hope he didn't upgrade the wrong db
-
njsg_
CoordinatorTobin: I think the website has documentation for profiles, that'd probably be a good place to add something about this
-
CoordinatorTobin
and is getting any mismatches
-
CoordinatorTobin
this is why we should work on crafting a definitive and tested proceedure for this and share it to the world so when people frankenprofile they at least have a guide to follow
-
ChipMaster
And this is actually one of two SM installs. My computer is MUCH happier without all those gigs getting consumed with TB & FF.
-
ChipMaster
Its sad when its considered "OK" that each app should take 1G of RAM. FF, SM, Crumb (chrome), Slack, ...
-
frg_Away
ChipMaster well you need a second browser unfortunately. The web is moving faster than we.
-
ChipMaster
Since web development is my current game... I'm well aware of that. ;-)
-
njsg_
CoordinatorTobin: a problem with this would be confirming what the limits are exactly, what formats are supported, and what upgrade/migration paths are possible. probably means looking up in the mozillazine forum and in the newsgroups too
-
ChipMaster
But SM works for most of what I do in terms of websites.
-
njsg_
bbl
-
ChipMaster
My bank on the other hand: JS drawn 2FA entry doesn't work. :-(
-
CoordinatorTobin
njsg_: I have years of practical experience I just need to DO IT for a bunch of combos and nail it down.. my experience and intutition will help inform if it practically works
-
ChipMaster
Off to do some testing...
-
CoordinatorTobin
this is something I'd be willing to do sometime soon for the benefit of us all so it is nailed down and known
-
CoordinatorTobin
from that research SM can distill down the relevant bits and load it up on the SM site somewhere as you njsg_ suggest cause you have SOME profile info already so that will be enhanced no doubt.
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause i will surely take this way too far
-
CoordinatorTobin
lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
it's what I do :P
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: as for the web. yeah you do need both a true document navigator as WELL as a webapp browser
-
CoordinatorTobin
to get by
-
CoordinatorTobin
i simply cannot live on chromium alone
-
CoordinatorTobin
it is too not enough of a document navigator anymore
-
CoordinatorTobin
you guys know
-
CoordinatorTobin
just rememeber njsg_ My scope is the ENTIRE mozillasphere which includes SeaMonkey because to me.. personally.. SeaMonkey is still why I believe I can do these things.
-
frg_Away
Yes. Also keeping compatibility with 7 and 8.1 is still important for me.
-
CoordinatorTobin
I am very on the fence about my how i should handle that
-
CoordinatorTobin
and 32bit and windows in general
-
CoordinatorTobin
part of me is with you and want to keep 7+ always
-
CoordinatorTobin
but another part wants to just have win64 on LTSC 2019 and newer until window as a platform dies
-
CoordinatorTobin
i remain conflicted about it
-
CoordinatorTobin
i think I won't be bringing back Interlink 32bit builds
-
ChipMaster
I've restarted, deleted and added passwords multiple times in random order and all seems good to go.
-
CoordinatorTobin
or even connecting the AUS back up.. just do an appdata break and consider Interlink on UXPv4 as a pseudo-successor
-
ChipMaster
To recap: I disable the master password in FF. Then copied cert9.db, key4.db and logins.json from my FFprofile to my SM profile.
-
CoordinatorTobin
ChipMaster: that is the basic proceedure congrats dude
-
CoordinatorTobin
seems like it went well
-
ChipMaster
Thanks! And thanks for the help. This is a time saver.... although I'm wondering if I shouldn't have started fresh.... do I really need all 880 of those passwords still...?
-
CoordinatorTobin
that is a decision you must make for your self. I'd say you got away with it. Go with it.
-
ChipMaster
lol! I agree.
-
ChipMaster
I find it interesting how computers and closets seem to share soooo much in common. The "stuff" just keeps stacking up. :-D
-
CoordinatorTobin
my password store and bookmarks and cookies have been through firefox, seamonkey, pale moon, borealis, pale moon, newer firefox, waterfox, and back
-
CoordinatorTobin
but i am just ASKING for corruption
-
CoordinatorTobin
at that point
-
CoordinatorTobin
over 15 years
-
CoordinatorTobin
and so many forks and versions
-
tomman
this SeaMonkey profile started life 15 years ago...
-
CoordinatorTobin
I am an Advanced Mozilla Profile Mangler
-
tomman
there is so much crud from deprecated files that sometimes I wonder if I should nuke it and start over
-
CoordinatorTobin
and ChipMaster you are on your way too now.. sorry but it is addictive.. all things truely mozilla are.. not the webex or the photons.. but true mozilla tech the netscape shit.. it is addictive as hell and just be warned you MIGHT have a taste for it now
-
ChipMaster
Mine has gone through Mozilla, FF and now SM.
-
ChipMaster
lol. Fine with me.
-
ChipMaster
I already migrated my address book from TB. That was easy.
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah i remember when I first merged a firefox and thunderbird profile back into a seamonkey one
-
ChipMaster
Oh! Before I actually get to work stuff... I can't seem to find a way to password protect my passwords. What am I missing?
-
CoordinatorTobin
it was harder back then
-
CoordinatorTobin
the profile file formats and shit were FAR less resilliant
-
ChipMaster
Never mind. Found it.
-
CoordinatorTobin
Glad we could help lol
-
ChipMaster
:))
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: do you still have the helpviewer?
-
CoordinatorTobin
one day someone should rtf up some new halp files
-
frg_Away
yes helpvier is still there. Unfortunately the help can not be translater via Pontoon
-
CoordinatorTobin
what format does pontoon use?
-
frg_Away
I update help now and then. A few others too.
-
CoordinatorTobin
maybe could rig up a converter
-
frg_Away
Biscally only good for properties dtd and ftl out of the box. Help files are not exposed.

does ted cruz even care about ted cruz at this point?

ChipMaster
Thanks again for the help guys. I have work to attend...
-
CoordinatorTobin
someone who obviously feels they are not being listened to in their glorious cause to inform the general public of ted cruz's supposed gayness

jonadab
I think I've heard the name "Ted Cruz" at some point before, but I honestly have no idea when or in what circumstances.
-
CoordinatorTobin
this is why ChipMaster is cool.. HE knows when to stop obsessing and get to work.. I should do the same!
-
CoordinatorTobin
jonadab: american republican politician
-

:))

N
-
CoordinatorTobin
anywhoo
-
CoordinatorTobin
what was I on about
-
CoordinatorTobin
oh yeah converter from dtd to halp rtf
-
jonadab
CoordinatorTobin: Ok, but we have thousands of politicians, and almost half of them are Republicans.
-
CoordinatorTobin
would it be worth looking into the possibility without actually doing anything much frg_Away
-
jonadab
And I'm only so much into politics. I mean, I follow the _really major_ stuff...
-
CoordinatorTobin
jonadab: in the US half the republicans are democrats the other half are too dumb to look to anyone else but trump
-
jonadab
I do know about Trump. Unfortunately.
-
jonadab
I keep hoping someone else will get the nomination, but...
-
CoordinatorTobin
well not gonna get into one of those discussions.. today anyway..
-
frg_Away
CoordinatorTobin update/translate help? Not worth it. Pontoon is not made for this.
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: maybe just end the help viewer or just rip out the guts and make it a thin browser window using remote content
-
CoordinatorTobin
same ui
-
jonadab
I will say, Trump's first term in office did not go as badly as I expected, though that's not a very high bar. Same is true of Biden incidentally.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i'd be interested in that for my self actually frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
so then the question is would you want a copy too lol
-
frg_Away
CoordinatorTobin That is actually what IanN and I discussed. Do a browser windows and just use html help in it either served locally or via url. I don't have the knowledge/time to do this fast or anytime soon.
-
CoordinatorTobin
that is a fantastic idea
-
CoordinatorTobin
one that I can do and easily translate up to your codebase
-
CoordinatorTobin
hell I'll make a standalone too lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
why not
-
CoordinatorTobin
but first service SM
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah that sounds fun actually frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
basic browser .. content scope.. needs a content area click handler and .. i need to download seamonkey and run the thing
-
frg_Away
Well sidebar help and sessionstore are the three areas needing an overhaul. I suspect we already broke some stuff in the sidebar and no one noticed.
-
CoordinatorTobin
session store i have a vested intrest in cause I am weaker in that area and borealis's is weaker still lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
and the sidebar for both of us needs work as well .. so yeah i guess I will be assisting more than i thought
-
frg_Away
sessionstore is just finding some time and applying mozilla stuff mostly. Sidebar needs to be evaluated what should be kept. Unlike the library replacing the old bookmarks manager the barbone Fx bar is a bit too barebone for my taste so no 1:1 ripout
-
CoordinatorTobin
the search tab has never worked properly since toolkit transition
-
CoordinatorTobin
i killed it in mine
-
CoordinatorTobin
unless you are gonna try and apply reader tech to search results or some other kind of filtering so they actually fit and are useful in a sidebar.. just kill it is my recommendation frg_Away
-
frg_Away
We fixed it a bit but search results in the sidebar are gone forever
-
frg_Away
But you can search from it.
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah i would focus on putting more functionality into the sidebar.. reduced restyled overlays for add-ons manager, downloads, etc
-
CoordinatorTobin
shit people would use a sidebar for in this day and age even on a traditional as fuck ui
-
CoordinatorTobin
in the same way the places powered ones are
-
frg_Away
I used it long ago but no more.
-
CoordinatorTobin
if you want sidebar search in a real way tho it likely needs to be rebuilt from the ground up
-
CoordinatorTobin
maybe forcing mobile on search results page
-
CoordinatorTobin
and some additional styling
-
CoordinatorTobin
fixups
-
frg_Away
yes backend stuff for this is all gone
-
CoordinatorTobin
for me not AS much but almost for me too yeah
-
CoordinatorTobin
luckily with a UXP suite happening Moonbeast won't be so quick to rip communicator tech out from under consumers of that codebase
-
CoordinatorTobin
which I am least for now

CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: i'd be interested to see just what this codebase of yours can do once you are no longer so tied to hg replay
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause I am not discounting that I might simply jump Interlink to the SeaMonkey codebase depending on if it remains in demand and if the mailnews core I got can service them properly
-
CoordinatorTobin
also depends on if i can fix the flaw between uxpv4 and v6 for interlink if I can't then I will rebase and restart Interlink on SM's platform codebase

CoordinatorTobin Server 2012?
-
CoordinatorTobin
LTSC 2019
-
CoordinatorTobin
1809
-
CoordinatorTobin
..
-
frg_Away
Oh no looks like 10
-
CoordinatorTobin
it is 10
-
CoordinatorTobin
ok.. yeah help viewer.. funny i thought it was more sophisticated than this
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah this ain't no problem
-
CoordinatorTobin
for skin reasons I will reuse the same general UI and just repurpose the content frames and functions
-
CoordinatorTobin
but this is totally doable as a gutting and xhtml'ing of it
-
CoordinatorTobin
also xhtml will allow you to use entities least locally i am sure
-
CoordinatorTobin
i honestly dunno how dtds work on the unpriv'd web
-
CoordinatorTobin
and then just build up the pages with the text as entities but the form in html with images n shit
-
CoordinatorTobin
sound like a thing frg_Away ?
-
CoordinatorTobin
or do you just want it to be html that is just direct translated and swapped out
-
CoordinatorTobin
with images in skin resources
-
CoordinatorTobin
err content
-
frg_Away
I have seen the url bar issue only with Server 2012 R2 so far
ibb.co/wNhKczf
-
frg_Away
Looked for a few hours but gave up and decided I am too dumb for fixing css.
-
frg_Away
It picks some OS color from somewhere it seems.
-
CoordinatorTobin
communicator css is a bit more difficult than if you are used to strata4 or australis firefox css
-
CoordinatorTobin
what is happening is the bounds of the box as rendered by uxstyle through widget are smaller than the superimposed true bounds being colored gold cause https
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away:
-
CoordinatorTobin
that is what it LOOKS like without having domi to inspect
-
CoordinatorTobin
the white ok dialog button text is MORE conserning actually frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause that is deff an error in color selection
-
CoordinatorTobin
how much of mozilla's modifications for later versions HAVE you been taking in
-
frg_Away
As for the help I am not sure if it will be possible to still link into chrome like today.
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: why not?
-
CoordinatorTobin
the add-ons manager is a chrome level xhtml document despite it's xul extension and if you blocked loading from chrome into browser elements for content you would have broken a fuck ton of extensions
-
frg_Away
A few but I tried to stay clear of them if possible. No specifics. Too many to remember and some breakage was already from 53 to 56. Mozilla cleaned up toolkit there and removed fallback styles.
-
CoordinatorTobin
and likely the entire platform
-
CoordinatorTobin
well firefox styles its self almost exclusively in later versions
-
CoordinatorTobin
so you will have to restore some fallbacks
-
CoordinatorTobin
or exclude them from your patch queue
-
CoordinatorTobin
unless you wanna just forego the toolkit and style yourself within comm/ sources
-
CoordinatorTobin
using communicator.css
-
CoordinatorTobin
to override toolkit more completely without affecting the platform patch queue
-
CoordinatorTobin
eh frg_Away ?
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause really any truely enhancing or deviating stratagy depend on if it has to work around the patch queue or not

CoordinatorTobin That is what we did mostly. Trying to fix it in our code. Backed out some stuff too.
-
frg_Away
Yeah harmless errors. Wanted to fix this for ages. Firefox centric code.

While creating services from category 'profile-after-change', could not create service for entry 'calendar-backend-loader', contract ID 'service,@mozilla.org/calendar/backend-loader;1'

I thought DOMi was dead?
-
frg_Away
It is installed with SeaMonkey
-
CoordinatorTobin
on sm
-
CoordinatorTobin
SERIOUSLY
-
CoordinatorTobin
where
-
frg_Away
Only in 2.57 and up.
-
CoordinatorTobin
no.. it is in 2.53
-
CoordinatorTobin
in front of my face
-
CoordinatorTobin
nice
-
CoordinatorTobin
i love domi
-
CoordinatorTobin
needs some enhancements i made tho like the shift+rightclick anywhere to inspect an element with domi
-
frg_Away
Mozilla removed so many nsI interfaces it was dead in the water there. The 2.53 version might have some problems. We try to not break it in any case or fix it up for them but sometimes things slip thru.
-
CoordinatorTobin
are you seriously considering going with 2.57?
-
frg_Away
No dead now.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i wish venkman worked
-
frg_Away
2.53 has most of the sutff already in and more. Without the bad parts. Ok without most of the bad parts :)
-
frg_Away
Debugger isn't bad. Just use it in a fresh profile without add-ons like NoScript.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i have never liked the devtools
-
CoordinatorTobin
just me tho
-
CoordinatorTobin
others use them with great efficiency
-
frg_Away
So it is 2.53 and central. And central we knwo will not fly without a few more devs. Just building and fixing.
-
CoordinatorTobin
well it is almost completely unconverted xul wise
-
CoordinatorTobin
it ain't gonna run
-
CoordinatorTobin
but if you ARE considering it as a long shot.. my own research will be including that soon enough
-
CoordinatorTobin
but at this point you might just want to build a new suite from what firefox and thunderbird are today and strip that down and retool it back into a suite of a communicator design
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: wouldn't it just be grand if via SeaMonkey and and my efforts we get mozilla to admit and start operating as a platform for everyone again?
-
frg_Away
-
frg_Away
I really wonder how this ended up in the TB sources for so long. Never fixed just removed in the end.
-
frg_Away
Unless I miss something and this worked somehow.
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: add class .padded to urlbar
-
CoordinatorTobin
seems to fix it right up
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause it is getting a zero margin from :not(.padded) up the line
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause it is using windows's accent styling
-
CoordinatorTobin
but all the styling is very inconsistant
-
CoordinatorTobin
between the urlbar, the search button and search bar and go button
-
CoordinatorTobin
but these have been mounting issues in the classic theme all along
-
CoordinatorTobin
but overriding toolkit styling here would seem to be the best case if you want to get everything to actually be the same size on the default theme
-
CoordinatorTobin
and I already did that kind of tedius fiddling before i am sure I can do it again for you I just need to know where to attack it from so it doesn't get in the way of the patch queue
-
CoordinatorTobin
i assume you want the os-integration effect just would like stuff not to look like it is a toolbar full of elements that don't quite match
-
frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
well it does fix it but only by adding a margin it would LOOK better if it just had maybe a 1px margin all around than the .padded style
-
CoordinatorTobin
but .padded HELPS some
-
frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
that SHOULD have resolved it
-
CoordinatorTobin
windows aero should apply to 8+
-
CoordinatorTobin
always
-
CoordinatorTobin
unless aero-lite or alt msstyle
-
CoordinatorTobin
-
CoordinatorTobin
guess I did that lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away:
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah because windows classic still needs it NOT padded but aero needs SLIGHT padding
-
CoordinatorTobin
aero and white sheets of paper called aero
-
frg_Away
-
frg_Away
Will file a proper bug later. Thanks.
-
CoordinatorTobin
oh Borealis is full of shit everyone needs lol
-
frg_Away
Seems in esr102 and up this is now moz-platfom.
-
CoordinatorTobin
i learned that autocomplete.css sets the padding to 0 for widgets that don't have an icon.
-
CoordinatorTobin
;)
-
CoordinatorTobin
well navigator will be re-patched from its 2020 state forward just so i have a DAMNED clean patch history for all those wonderful enhancements instead of the absolute clusterfuck i been doing the past year and a half
-
CoordinatorTobin
and you can pillage all you want
-
CoordinatorTobin
even before I release it properly
-
CoordinatorTobin
just don't use the same icon set lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
SPEAKING OF frg_Away seamonkey needs a new default icon set
-
CoordinatorTobin
those not-netscape icons have never looked particularly good just particularly not purple netscape
-
frg_Away
I know. The care bear icons are urgkkk....
-
frg_Away
-
CoordinatorTobin
I'd like to eventually try my hand at doing hq versions of the purple netscape icon set but in different color schemes
-
CoordinatorTobin
i love that era of icon design
-
CoordinatorTobin
I stay the FUCK out of the way of the Care Bears..
-
frg_Away
They are too soft and are missing contrast. Look outdated. And I don't miss seeing the care bears ;)
-
CoordinatorTobin
they will fuckin hit you with a care bare stare and then you'll be fucked
-
CoordinatorTobin
Don't provoke the Care Bears.
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah the constrast was always the issue.. the DESIGN was .. OKAY
-
frg_Away
But I will be dead before everyone aggrees on a new set of icons and rather fix up web compatibility instead.
-
CoordinatorTobin
should have went more along the lines of the Netscape Fusion 8 glyps just dropping the aqua bulbs
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: i couldn't focus on webcompat or even feature enhancement until i did something about them there icons lol
-
CoordinatorTobin
but i am a designer
-
CoordinatorTobin
it comes with the territory
-
frg_Away
I can live with them and I already lived with the for years.
-
CoordinatorTobin
the other aspect is an attractive first experience ui can help encurage potental participation
-
CoordinatorTobin
and contribution
-
CoordinatorTobin
but it is all academic as I don't have any icons to offer up and without that any agruements that you shouldn't focus on webcompat vs icons is meaningless
-
CoordinatorTobin
nah one day I will throw icons at you and you can take em or leave em as is the nature of things ;)
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: how is the state of themeing capability in the platform anyway
-
frg_Away
Full themes are retained. Lightweight themes still work but I would like to get rid of them in favor of webext ones. They are both crap anyway and no one will miss the lightweight ones.
-
frg_Away
And calling webext themes a thems is ...
-
CoordinatorTobin
chrome://global/skin/button.css:50 is why the button text on default and hover is highlighttext for some reason
-
frg_Away
A skin at best
-
CoordinatorTobin
static themes are JUST personas
-
frg_Away
without a personality :)
-
CoordinatorTobin
i would start by adding a distinct add-ons type for em.. and THEN feed em into lightweightthemeprovider and in the add-ons manager i would visually connect the active status with the persona and hide away its former cloud status but also provision for older style lwthemes as well
-
CoordinatorTobin
THAT is what I would do providng you wanted to retain all functionality
-
CoordinatorTobin
and enhance
-
CoordinatorTobin
or you can drop older style persona capability and completely bend the provider to serve the static persona type exclusively
-
CoordinatorTobin
which would be eaiser
-
CoordinatorTobin
and LESS disruptive
-
CoordinatorTobin
to the patch queue
-
CoordinatorTobin
but you would i would hope want to retain persona on top of arbitrary theme capability which was possible via extension in addition to applying to the default theme
-
CoordinatorTobin
and as I also have an intrest in the static theme format just not for Borealis or Interlink.. it is an overlapping additional field of research and development or in other words.. i am heading that way too feel free to tag along
-
frg_Away
So far theming did have a really low priority. Other than retaining full themes I just tried to not break existing lw them stuff. Same for ianN I assume. We did lots of add-on manager updates to align with later code.
-
CoordinatorTobin
well if we just ignore lwtheme provider and clone a new static theme provider that does the same thing and then xpcom contract it in using the model the add-ons manager has should be able to avoid a bunch of work and retooling and the patch queue for the most part i'd guess
-
CoordinatorTobin
ok Themes is Themes not Apperance.. good
-
CoordinatorTobin
So add.. Styles
-
CoordinatorTobin
and Styles is the Static Themes/Personas/etc
-
CoordinatorTobin
cause you know frg_Away .. I was gonna do this for MCP
-
CoordinatorTobin
the static themes successor to personas
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: just don't ask me to make Firefox Color work lol
-
frg_Away
Yes Colorway themes are a top priority too ...
-
CoordinatorTobin
yeah well you can figure that shit out yourself .. fuckin pastel purple and green horseshit.
-
CoordinatorTobin
frg_Away: :P
-
frg_Away
Well but your room would be bug free. They all drop dead when seeing this.
-
CoordinatorTobin
anyway the process IS simple in theory.. xpiprovider loads xpi.. xpiprovider knows to hand it off to static theme providr .. static theme provider adds a category to add-ons manager and does basically what lightweight theme provider did except it doesn't create a new entry it just goes by enable and disable and only ONE may be enabled at a time in that category just like themes (when personas aren't mixed in) wham done
-
CoordinatorTobin
the rest reuses everything lwthemes did
-
CoordinatorTobin
and internally works likely the same
-
CoordinatorTobin
do THAT
-
CoordinatorTobin
and you will be good with a minimum of work and headaches
-
CoordinatorTobin
so let me make sure my ass can cash this check.. i am doing .. tycho weave (yes still), helpviewer, static themes, and likely style fixes all over the place and providing xref
-
CoordinatorTobin
yep i can cover that
-
CaptainTobin
get off that coordinator name before i obligate my self to even more lol
-
CaptainTobin
and then there's THIS asshole
-
CaptainTobin
i mean
-
CaptainTobin
hi tomman
-
CaptainTobin
;)
-
tomman
:D
-
tomman
coming from YET another blackout
-
CaptainTobin
love doing that it has been a while
-
CaptainTobin
well
-
CaptainTobin
ok
-
tomman
so I might be in an assholeish mood
-
CaptainTobin
not so much THAT
-
CaptainTobin
tomman: TELL US ALL ABOUT IT
-
CaptainTobin
lol
-
tomman
dealing with MercadoLibre - not only their load of Chromeisms break on SeaMonkey, they also take a dump on both buyers and sellers regularly
-
tomman
too bad eBay never happened in Latam to give them some good competition
-
CaptainTobin
you know unless someone who actually owns this channel objects of course
-
CaptainTobin
ebay cators to google microsoft and apple
-
CaptainTobin
what else is new
-
tomman
the most we got with eBay in Latam was Mercadolibre partnering with them a decade ago
-
tomman
but that partnership is no longer, as they don't mention it anymore
-
tomman
also, there have never really any real competition to them - OLX was the most credible threat but they folded
-
therube
freakin FF 115esr just blew me up! video driver issue - when i loaded msn. don't ask me why i loaded msn! & before i could close the window, i was done... come to think of it... not sure if keyboard was alive, but i should have tested that, & attempted Alt+F+X... oh well.
-
CaptainTobin
this page more than anything is what inspired There is Only XUL dot org
www-archive.mozilla.org/projects
-
CaptainTobin
remember when the mozilla community produced a lot of good software
-
WG9s
CaptainTobin: so you are up on ghostbuster references?
-
CaptainTobin
i dunno.. there is no Data only XUL
-
CaptainTobin
WG9s:
-
WG9s
oh you zooler
-
CaptainTobin
i just wonder when the eggs are gonna start cooking spontaniously
-
CaptainTobin
non-stick samerian egg cooking techniques are seconds to none
-
CaptainTobin
second*
-
CaptainTobin
WG9s: takes some serious voodoo to cook on a counter top without oil
-
CaptainTobin
and not have it stick
-
WG9s
I wonder now how many people looking at XUL code understand the there is only xul in the meta data
-
CaptainTobin
older fucks will but the younger people? xul? that thing that got replaced by xhtml?
-
WG9s
there's is something new in the neighborhood
-
frg_Away
A kfc? :)
-
CaptainTobin
i think Mozilla took it too far cause it resulted in "bustin browsers feels so good"
-
WG9s
frg_Away: lyric from ghostbusters theme song
-
frg_Away
WG9s I know.
-
frg_Away
Ghostbusters lalalal
-
CaptainTobin
-so
-
CaptainTobin
heh
-
CaptainTobin
bustin
-
frg_Away
and now nightbuster. cu
-
CaptainTobin
WG9s: so what is new with you
-
WG9s
funny thing bout that song is they got sued because it seemed to just be Huey Lewis I Want A New Drug with different words
-
WG9s
and now just to make things worse Mozilla is changing to clang 17
-
WG9s
i am stuck on clang-14 for macOS and clang-15 for linux
-
WG9s
for my 2.53 builds
-
CaptainTobin
WG9s: seamonkey build with gcc still on linux right?
-
WG9s
Windows seems to sork sith clan-16
-
CaptainTobin
or is it all clang
-
WG9s
oh sorry on wrong channel
-
CaptainTobin
WG9s: is it?
-
CaptainTobin
i like build shit
-
CaptainTobin
seems to keep activity and engagement up too
-
WG9s
my builds for 2.5318b1pre all use clang
-
CaptainTobin
neat
-
CaptainTobin
how is it on linux vs gcc builds?
-
WG9s
release builds may still use gcc not sure
-
CaptainTobin
i mnean i resist clang if possible on principle but if it does a superior job .. it might be harder to argue with WG9s
-
WG9s
work find for my most of my issues are with macOS cross-compiles but i cant get them to build at all using gcc at least i ca get successful builds using clang but I have zeto macs so now way to test
-
CaptainTobin
yeah
-
CaptainTobin
i'd rather focus on linux arm than macintrash
-
CaptainTobin
I will figure out those secrets and share them when I do
-
CaptainTobin
when I get a linux arm device i can run shit on
-
WG9s
mozilla folk have switched to builing with clang but my main reason for sritching had to do with major issues getting a macOS cross compile to work at all using gcc
-
CaptainTobin
yeah that never worked right
-
CaptainTobin
we tried it at the 52 level
-
WG9s
you might find you need to use clang to build for arm anoother pace where i tan into issues trying to use gcc on a cross compile
-
CaptainTobin
and really the XP_CONDITIONALS kinda espect clang not gcc
-
CaptainTobin
i assume it is still largely the case for you
-
CaptainTobin
i don't see why mozilla hasn't just invested in cross compile clang linux to windows
-
CaptainTobin
man i am really kinda upset i didn't use this color scheme for BinOC its self.. the cavendish steel blue/purple
-
CaptainTobin
it looks so good
-
CaptainTobin
but no i am developing such a nice aesthetic of my own
-
CaptainTobin
hi GrannyGoose
-
GrannyGoose
hello CaptainTobin , hows it going
-
CaptainTobin
not bad
-
CaptainTobin
just setting up my life a year and a half later than expected
-
CaptainTobin
more seriously I am working on developing thereisonlyxul.org into the project-agnostic resource I always meant it to be
-
GrannyGoose
thats good , goodluck with it all
-
CaptainTobin
well it is for everyone's benefit
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: seamonkey resources are listed and I setup a cross-reference there where sm's xr is now
-
tomman
yay, Outlook finally broke for me on Seamonkey
-
tomman
"SyntaxError: bad method definition"
-
CaptainTobin
tomman: a shame
-
tomman
can't get past from the bouncing letter
-
GrannyGoose
isnt FRG stopping with SM2.53.18? an your taking over ?
-
CaptainTobin
outlook doesn't require oauth why are you just not using mailnews
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: lol huh
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: who said that
-
GrannyGoose
i dunno, im out of the loop
-
CaptainTobin
i love the concept but alas no
-
CaptainTobin
but i will help
-
CaptainTobin
which i should have been all this time
-
CaptainTobin
from my place in the BinOC/Galaxy
-
tomman
CaptainTobin: I do sometimes need to log in through their webby version to check for false positives on the spam filter
-
tomman
same with GMail
-
njsg_
oh damn, the spam was here too
-
CaptainTobin
yeah
-
CaptainTobin
they hit binoc's server within 12 hours of it being online
-
CaptainTobin
same ted cruz is gay message
-
CaptainTobin
i just dunno what he was trying to tell us tho
-
CaptainTobin
:P
-
njsg_
why should I even care about the sexual orientation of a senator. One would think there'd be... more relevant things to want to care about regarding a senator. like... *politics*, his positions, and so on. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. But, either way, uh, wrong side of the pond, anyway.
-
njsg_
or is the spammer saying "find out what made this guy ultra happy, news at eleven!"...
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: the things I have thus far commited to halping seamonkey with are the previously mentioned tycho weave backend for non fxa sync, i am gonna change the helpviewer to be html consuming so translations can happen, and I am gonna look into mozilla's webex "static themes" as a persona replaceent for you guys
-
CaptainTobin
also likely numerous style fixups as they offend me and frg accepts em
-
CaptainTobin
:P
-
GrannyGoose
oh ok thanks for the update there .
-
CaptainTobin
i wanna help
-
CaptainTobin
so am gonna
-
GrannyGoose
i would if i was a programmer but im not sorry
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: lots of ways to help
-
CaptainTobin
testing reporting poking trying asking
-
CaptainTobin
lots of ways
-
CaptainTobin
beyond coding
-
GrannyGoose
i can do that
-
CaptainTobin
i mean just earlier
-
CaptainTobin
i booted up the seamonkey and there were some issues str8 off
-
CaptainTobin
fixed one with a Borealis patch
-
CaptainTobin
and that was pretty neat
-
CaptainTobin
least I think so GrannyGoose
-
GrannyGoose
im sure it would be, im gonna duck off an have some breakfast , i wont be long :)
-
CaptainTobin
GrannyGoose: duck for breakfast.. DUCK BACON
-
CaptainTobin
someone make it happen
