tomman: it worries me that emojis have become an accessibility problem of sorts. which can have solutions, but still a roadblock at least

say, sometimes things just aren't compatible with font sizes used in terminal emulators (and I'm not mentioning terminals, because I think UCS support in terminals isn't common, let alone support for emojis)

one upside is that at least the glyphs have descriptions that could be used as an alt text of sorts, but of course this relies on emojis being used for what they were intended to be, and not, say, like non-generic lego pieces that are used for two different purposes

franstam: I suppose part of it might be lack of an introduction to what IRC is and how it works, maybe people used to some of the newer social media platforms expect this to work, just like they might find it confusing that /IGNORE makes you not see, and not the other way around
