Status of the SeaMonkey Infrastructure

not aware of any infra changes. Should we update rust for 2.53.13b1? Not really needed I think. 1.58.1 is fine and stable for now.

the more stable the better :-)

Under Windows 1.60 is also fine for me

Status of the SeaMonkey Source Tree

1.60 seems to enable incremental compilation but see no improvement.

later rust buildsfine but for me becuase of the version of linux I build on I get the dreaded unwanted symbol in GLIBC notification. builds work fine though. On the other hand last time a tried building with clang-14 was unsuccessful

2.53 only had backports. Nothing new for central lately.

as usual wish I had more time but 2.53 is really nice lately and just needs better web compatibility.

2.53 got lots of build fixes lately. Prio is python 3 compatibility there.

well with dark modes we are already back at the 3270 terminal era so not far away :)

it really depends on how many of these "dark modes" are dark

Mozilla plans to not fully implement it and a few other thoo but any such add-ons will never make it into the play or ms store.

could barely read you guys this week

as my power company decided to zap my computers yesterday

thankfully, almost all survived... except for my routerbox, so I'm back on a temporary old setup (pls don't hax me)

had a similar event happen to me in 2014, with even more devastating results

every single surge protector (and UPS) on this circuit blew up

there was a blackout on the entire block when the surge happened

the fancy sockets everywhere, but of no big use because the third connector isn't

amazingly the circuit breaker tripped... but only after the carnage was done

IanN: I'm thinking on the ghetto way of just dropping a wire from that socket through the window, and dig a hole for a earthing bar or something

still not cheap (need to buy pipes, fittings, and pay someone to dig a hole in the backyard through concrete, etc)

but Something Must Be Done™ - can't afford to be replacing equipment every time there is a blackout because our grid is a bad joke

this time I only lost my routerbox, an UPS, and a laptop charger for my oldest email-only laptop

in 2014 I lost entire systems, TVs, etc.

haven't fully recovered since them

...are mailboxes compatible between "major" SM releases?

I just finished refurbishing that Thinkpad T40, and while it's still stuck with XP (and SM2.49.5), I also setup modern Debian on it (running latest stable SM)

so I want to do the same setup I have currently (mailboxes shared between OS)

so basically my only options this time are 1) move to a supported setup (W7/Debian... but I rarely use W7 nowadays), or 2) fully commit to Linux

My SM mail is in a 7 vm. But imap so also in my Linux one. and Server 2016 and 2012 R2 and ...

frg: right now I'm down to two accounts on SM: GMail and Hotmail (aka Outlook)

for now I do a dual XP/ancient Debian shared setup, but the ancient Debian hasn't been used in ages

while for everything else I use my dual W7/latest Debian boxes... on which I boot W7 like, once a year

so I may bite the bullet and just do all my email from Debian

ah, what would be the migration procedure there? I have mailboxes dating back to 2006

well 7 will be finally eol January 2023. Moved my main box to Server 2019 because 8.1 is also eol by then. Now all peachy to 2028 and by that time I can move to Server 2022

tomman latest 2.53.12 should pick up 2.49.5 ones just fine. So go to 2.49.5 first.

frg: the mailboxes are already on 2.49.5 - I want to move them to another machine running 2.53.12 on a completely different profile that has never done email

tomman. Best to copy the 2.49.5 profile and import bookmarks from the 2.53.12 one later.

well, this 2.49.5 profile hasn't done web browsing in ages, and it has edits to point the mailboxes to a separate dir/drive (as only the mailboxes were shared between Win/Linux)

can't even remember how I did that back then

frg_Away: I added a README.txt to both latest-source directoryes on archive.mozilla.org to expalin the layout of the source tarballs
