WTF GOOGL
-
tomman
they're going to cut off access to "unsafe applications" like... our email clients that don't do the supasekret Google challenge?
-
tomman
(aka Log In With Google)
-
tomman
starting May 30th
-
tomman
how screwed up is SeaMonkey?
-
tomman
and yes, that's what I get by letting the Putin of software to host my email :/
-
tomman
-
tomman
no, I refuse to do 2FA for Google, that involves SMS that fail to arrive, or... activating an Android device
-
tomman
OH HELL NO
-
tomman
And of course I can't give negative feedback because the page uses named capture groups: /[^\p{Letter}\s_-]/ug,""
-
tomman
GOOGLE!!!!
-
tomman
...that regex also breaks their community forums, rendering posts unreadable because of cascading JS failures
-
njsg
I wonder if "application passwords" require 2FA
-
njsg
it's sad if it does, otherwise it might be a workaround
-
IanN_Away
njsg: I don't think so from what I read
-
tomman
application passwords seem to require 2FA, at least for creating them
-
tomman
I guess I've got two months to migrate 15 years of my life off Google :/
-
tomman
but... to nowhere?
-
tomman
it will be oh-so-much fun to go to banks (AGAIN) and change emails in the middle of a pandemic
-
tomman
(particularly when many banks are closing their local branches, and changing email/phone numbers CAN'T be done online or over the phone for most banks here due to regulations)
-
frg_Away
tomman This might just be the enforcement of oauth 2 which should work. If not they can pound sand for all I care.
-

tomman I have not gotten a message for the one test account I use for testing only but think this sums it up:

Needs NoScript and uBlock to be turned off temporarily until you signed in and saved the generated passcode or whatever. Remember passwords need to be on or you will need to repeat this every time for sign in. Basically a callback is called which opens a google.com popup window .
-
frg_Away
And the idea that data is secure with google is not something I would support :)
-
njsg
Yeah, I'd say relying on google ends up being a mistake. That's my experience, at least.
-
louistoscano
Cannot login, cannot register under new email address
-
louistoscano
Your product crashes too often on Windows 7. O, hell!
-
njsg
I'd ask login, register *where*...
-
tomman
OK, so I would need to setup OAuth2 to keep using GMail with SM...
-
tomman
1) what's the minimal required version for it? (as in: will I finally have a excuse to move my email off my ancient 2.49.5 XP setup?)
-
tomman
2) I see instructions for Thunderbird only...
-
tomman
...nevermind, 2.49.5 doesn't do OAuth2
-
tomman
welp, this means that it's finally time to move on, and it's unlikely I can fully ditch El Google as much as I want
-
tomman
I now need to remember how to move out my mailboxes and share them between Windows and Linux
-
tomman
well, shoot myself
-
tomman
ended enabling 2FA over SMS (thankfully SIMswap hijacks are not of concern here as our telcos charge $10 for a SIM swap which must be done IN PERSON and with fingerprints)
-
tomman
plus, printing additional security codes for emergencies (OK, that's nice)
-
tomman
and generating an app-specific password for SM
-
tomman
this feels even better than my banks /sarcasm
-
therube
wonder if Google will work with my Eudora?
-
tomman
...and now Google is complaining about my app-specific password because OMGUNSAFEDANGERMINESWORLDWARIII
-
tomman
give me a break, Alphabet!
-
tomman
I can imagine next year's warning: "GoogleAuthâ„¢ for the GoogleNetâ„¢ OR ELSE!"
-
tomman
(well, assuming there will be a new year next year, given the current state of affairs...)
-
GrannyGoose
topic could do with a slight fix " Beta 2.53.11b1 " since thats out stable, no need to say its still a Beta
