Hello
-
njsg
hi
-
Guest52
i would like to help improve the look of Seamonkey because it is too retro and aesthetically ugly, I would like to help create some new themes. and also ask the developers to improve the visual aspect of the browser
-
njsg
what more specifically do you think that needs improvement?
-
njsg
I think the default theme is meant to more or less inherit the appearance of the OS/toolkit theme
-
njsg
and I think there has been some work on icons
-
njsg
I'm not sure I see what is "too retro", but, well, there's support for full themes, so it should be possible to tweak part of the appearance
-
njsg
I personally use the modern theme. I like it and with the default/"classic" one I'd spend too much time tweaking the gtk+3 theme :-D
-
GrannyGoose
there's already themes out there, just patch those to work with 2.53.x
-
Guest52
i like that it is a lightweight browser, uses few resources, ideal for not so powerful PCs, but the aesthetic appearance is discouraging and does not excite, does not look attractive
-
njsg
there are people who prefer the way it can look currently, that's why I asked for a more specific opinion
-
Guest52
there are very few themes available for SeaMonkey, all too old, I would like to create some theme but I have to learn how to do it.. but it would also be a good idea if some of you could do some new stuff. It would be great.
-
njsg
yes, but what are you looking for? it's always possible there's some theme somewhere for what you want
-
Guest52
i understand that there are people who prefer the current design, but I consider that the current design instead of attracting more users drives them away, I mean that the balance is negative
-
njsg
can't be worse than what firefox has been doing :-D
-
Guest52
i am interested that the design is something current, a modern design, you do not need to give an example, Firefox, Chrominun, Edge, Opera etc have current designs, I use windows 10 and Linux (Rosa linux) I worked for Mandriva Linux. and I'd like SeaMonkey to improve his appearance, because other things I don't have to question, just his
-
Guest52
appearance.
-
njsg
there are people whose main reason to use seamonkey *is* that it does not look like many webkit-based browsers or firefox. that said, it's probably not impossible to achieve some similarities in the looks with themes and customization
-
Guest52
i have several PCs to work with and they are all very powerful, I do not have problems with resource consumption, on some PCs I have up to 5 or 6 browsers installed.. but I think of those users who have low-resource PCs and who need a lightweight browser, they also deserve a browser of good aesthetics
-
njsg
what "good aesthetics" is can be quite subjective
-
Guest52
just come in to comment on this matter, I'll be back soon... thank you very much, you are very kind, regards
-
njsg
not saying there can't be a theme that suits you, just that what you prefer might not be what some other people prefer
-
njsg
fortunately, there being full themes, there's still room to suit different tastes
-
Guest52
i invite you to visit the add-ons page and see the available themes in addition to being very few, they have not been updated for years, most are not available. don't think there are more than 5 or 6 available.
-
Guest52
I understand your position and your opinion that tastes are relative.. but I myself have recommended to many people in my community of digital users of my media (social networks, websites, forums) and those who have come to install SeaMonkey have agreed to criticize the aspect and most said that they find it ugly, that is the reason why I have been
-
Guest52
driven to get here
-
njsg
it seems to list 29 themes, but some are indeed either listed as incompatible or will not work perfectly (I think XPFE Classic, while shown as compatible, will at least have some issues with 2.53?)
-
njsg
-
Guest52
I only hope to help this issue be taken into account. thank you very much!
-
njsg
Guest52: but did they say *why* did they find it ugly?
-
njsg
Guest52: is it possible choosing modern instead of default/"classic" would be enough for some of these users?
-
njsg
the default themes which inherit from the OS or UI toolkit theme sometimes show issues, that can perhaps be perceived as "ugliness", hence why I ask about modern
-
Guest52
Algun desarrollador habla espaƱol?
-
GrannyGoose
why people complain about a browser being ugly is beyond me when they still go to lengths to use it, surely it cant be that hard to theme a browser
-
frg_Away
GrannyGoose. It takes time to do it right. I think only pinball and Frank Lions themes are still fully up to date.
-
frg_Away
I am not happy with the Classic theme. It is not good with hi dpi monitors and looks dated. But replacing it with a primitive svg colorless theme like other products did is out of the question. SeaMonkey still supports full themes so one fo these can be added as an option.
-
GrannyGoose
yeah there the only ones i have noticed that still work
-
frg_Away
All the other "modern" browsers (not the 5x forks) look interchangable. They can all browse websites in most cases better than SM but have no soul. They are all just google me-too products.
-
GrannyGoose
anyway im off to bed, as long as a Browser works on the websites i visit i dont care what it looks like
-
frg_Away
up to a point yes.
-
frg_Away
But not my only criteria or I would posiblly not doing SeaMonkey work.
-
frg_Away
They all can show pages.
