shrini-irccloud
For this Sunday
-
sugi
But I don't know in which topic
-
sethu_payilagam
Hi Shrini. Good morning. Good day! Everyone
-
sugi
Good morning Sethu
-
sethu_payilagam
Nice blog Sugi about your first talk
-
sugi
I think what I am stuyding now at Payilagam - from that one topic I could and give, so its useful for my studies also
-
sugi
thank you sethu
-
sethu_payilagam
I hope many of us would've been in that situation.. I am atleast there :)
-
sugi
:)
-
sethu_payilagam
Shrini.. I received the book and started reading.. "Eat the Frog" :)
-
shrini-irccloud
Nice sethu_payilagam
-
shrini-irccloud
So quick
-
sethu_payilagam
literally started the first chapter.. but already implementing a few ideas in my da2 day work
-
sethu_payilagam
started to list the priorities for that day.. and trying to close as much as possible
-
shrini-irccloud
Can you share the things you read here daily ?
-
sugi
yes nice idea shrini
-
sethu_payilagam
to be frank.. started this yesterday and I felt its working.. so continuing today as well
-
shrini-irccloud
Explain more on what you read
-
sethu_payilagam
Sure Shrini. I will do.
-
shrini-irccloud
From today :-)
-
sethu_payilagam
:)
-
sugi
we are waiting sethu :)
-
sethu_payilagam
I will tell what I read so far and what I practice in just a few words.. nothing new or fancy but to me sounded practical to implement
-
sethu_payilagam
As I said I am a person who is so unorganized.. stepping into almost everything i come across in a given day. say for eg: if Shrini says study python a specific topic i will do it.. and if some article says this subject has got the good future i will go behind them for a while.. in between i will get into my office work.. movies.. etc etc etc.. and it continues..
-
sethu_payilagam
i will continue sharing my learning about the book tomorrow.
-
sethu_payilagam
Thats it Shrini and Sugi :)
-
sugi
nice, thanks sethu
-
sugi
but instead frog they would have given some toher
-
sethu_payilagam
:)
-
sugi
name like dish... eating frog - imagine, God.
-
sethu_payilagam
they have an explanation to that as well..
-
sugi
pls go ahead
-
sugi
/pls/ it is please
-
Varun777
shrini: Hi shrini
-
sethu_payilagam
The truth about Frogs: It has been said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing what is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long!
-
sethu_payilagam
And the second rule : if you have to eat a live frog at all, it doesn't pay to sit and look at it for very long.. :) :)
-
sugi
what.கடவுளே என்னைக் காப்பாற்று
-
sugi
thanks sethu, enough for today.
-
sethu_payilagam
yes thats right :)
-
shrini
here, the frog means the important task we want to do for any day
-
shrini
we always postpone that task
-
sugi
but the points are good. let me try to implement
-
shrini
instead of doing that A task, we do all the C,D tasks
-
shrini
which have less important
-
shrini
or dont have any important
-
shrini
just imagine, how many big tasks we have dreamed of
-
shrini
but missed to even start
-
shrini
doing
-
shrini
those are the frogs
-
shrini
find why we skip them, why we fear to start them
-
sugi
but in case if we can't finish the task within the time period, just have to start next task. or postpone
-
shrini
sethu_payilagam: share your answer for the above question
-
shrini
or anyone can answer
-
sethu_payilagam
whichever you left in half way.. give the top priority to that and try to close that the next day as the first item
-
sugi
For ex. I planned for A tasks-2, B task-1, C task-1. I will concentrate on A task, one completed, and another A in progress now reached like eveinig time
-
sethu_payilagam
that is waht am planning to do for the tasks i took yesterday but didn't get a chance to start.. as those are still top priority than anything else
-
sugi
so can i skip task B and C, continue task-A 2nd one. Or just pause it, and continue with B and C
-
sethu_payilagam
Sorry jumping between my office laptop and this one
-
sugi
no issues
-
sethu_payilagam
yes Sugi.. I think this is the principle they use in SCRUM as well
-
sethu_payilagam
sometime you tend to overcommit by taking up too many tasks
-
sethu_payilagam
which you will come to know when you actually start to work..
-
sethu_payilagam
using that as a learning.. when you set the priorities the next time.. you will carefully pick the task and the timeline to complete those..
-
sethu_payilagam
shrini - Is that correct understanding?
-
sugi
i got it, but could you please explain with my task question - so that its easy for me to understand better
-
sugi
so can i skip task B and C, continue task-A 2nd one. Or just pause it, and continue with B and C ?
-
sugi
because its nearly day ending
-
sugi
in that situation what should i do
-
sethu_payilagam
yes.. if you think task A is taking too much time for you to complete.. split that into child task and try to complete the next day.. sparing task b and c for another day.. that way you will atleast complete task a fully and feel accomplished
-
sethu_payilagam
child tasks~
-
sugi
/so can i skip task B and C, continue task-A 2nd one. Or just pause it, and continue with B and C / start with B and C as its easy and less priority tasks
-
sugi
ok
-
sethu_payilagam
sorry sugi. not sure if my answer provided a solution to your question..
-
shrini
dont start B or C until A is completed
-
sugi
got it
-
shrini
A is not in size
-
shrini
some big A tasks will span across days and months
-
sugi
yes
-
shrini
split into tiny actionable chunks, that can be done in a fixed time, for any day
-
shrini
if you have one hour to work, then plan for one A, one B and one C
-
sugi
ok
-
shrini
25 min for A - break for 5 min
-
shrini
15 min for B - break for 5 min
-
shrini
5-7 min for C
-
shrini
split like this
-
sethu_payilagam
perfect !
-
sethu_payilagam
thanks shrini!
-
sugi
but if mix tasks, we may miss the flow right.
-
sugi
For ex. I am writing a blog its taking quite a lot of time as its my earlier days, but I have some other coding work also there. If I leave blog work in the middle that flow I may loose, and next time it will take some extra time to recollect and restart
-
sugi
but I fixed like task A-is blog writing, and B-is Coding. For A giving 25min time, can't finish, then in the middle coding should I start?
-
shrini-irccloud
It depends on the urgency of B
-
shrini-irccloud
In general, its good to complete A
-
shrini-irccloud
Or split the blog into multiple parts
-
shrini-irccloud
And plan for only 20 min
-
sugi
ok
-
sugi
thank you so much shrini and sethu for your patience first
-
sugi
i know i am questioning more
-
sugi
sorry
-
shrini
sugi: we need such questions
-
shrini
they are driving the discussions
-
shrini
if no questions, then chats will be boring
-
sugi
then can i ask another one?
-
sugi
shrini may I know how long will it take for you to write one blog - if its technical?
-
shrini
for technical blogs, I take same time as writing code
-
sugi
you have search for the content, read it, then have to write the blog in your own way
-
shrini
code and documentation are equally time taking things
-
shrini
yes
-
shrini
but, the more we write, the more quicker we can make
-
shrini
just like cooking
-
shrini
on initial days, we take much time to cut the veggies, prepare the things etc
-
shrini
but, as we grow, we plan what to cook, in previous day itself and do the essential things
-
sugi
yes true
-
shrini
and we think about cooking while doing some other task
-
shrini
we dont have any planning time for cook
-
shrini
the same is for writing code and blogs
-
shrini
inner mind should keep on thinking while we do mundane tasks
-
shrini
it will reduce the planning time
-
shrini
we should sit in front of computer and then start thinking
-
shrini
sorry
-
shrini
we should not sit in front of computer, and then start think
-
shrini
but, some blogs need research
-
sugi
thats what
-
shrini
make the research as a task of B
-
sugi
ok
-
shrini
one day do the research
-
shrini
next day write blog
-
shrini
preparing things itself its own task
-
sugi
I am doing like that only
-
sugi
but then also in between checking the content as its new for me
-
sugi
not all, some stuffs which have lot of subdivisions
-
shrini
yes
-
sugi
so its taking 2 days for me (class, and other works also there)
-
shrini
realise that this is the same pattern
-
shrini
its okey to write blog once in 2 days
-
sugi
ok shrini
-
shrini
remember that writing blog = writing code
-
sugi
thank you so much for your guidance
-
shrini
same efforts are required for both
-
shrini
and we have only limited time
-
sugi
yes
-
shrini
sethu_payilagam: please continue here with your daily learnings
-
shrini
publish them in your blog too
-
sugi
thank you shrini
-
sugi
today let me finish this exception and tomorrow let me connect
-
shrini
thanks for the discussions and questions
-
shrini
sure sugi
-
shrini
sugi: hope you can give a talk about IRC
-
shrini
in kanchilug meeting
-
sugi
I should thank you for patiently answering my questions
-
shrini
as you are the good experience person using weechat and IRC, you can give a talk on that
-
shrini
no need to share thanks here daily :-)
-
sugi
IRC. Shrini, its best suitable for you, I am just a low level beginner
-
shrini
we need talks from beginners for beginners
-
shrini
we all are beginners always :-)
-
sugi
shrini I should admit you are a great speaker
-
sugi
:)
-
sugi
but I don't know much about technically
-
shrini
may be. but I want sugi and others here to become a good speaker, by giving regular talks
-
shrini
I will send some links
-
shrini
just go through them and give a talk
-
sugi
just how the people are collaborating and sharing stuffs -- that only
-
shrini
and share your experience
-
shrini
or if you want to talk about java stuff, that also fine
-
sugi
ok, if your links are in tamil, i feel better
-
shrini
plan for a topic by EOD and send a mail to the list
-
shrini
in tamil, there is one video
-
sugi
Muthu sir video?
-
shrini
yes
-
shrini
-
sugi
but talk will be how long?
-
shrini
Here is small video in Tamil by my friend Muthuramalingam of Payilagam –
youtube.com/watch?v=CGurYNb0BM8
-
shrini
20 min is enough
-
Varun777
sugi: who is muthu sir?
-
sugi
My professor - at Payilagam
-
anish
hi everyone
-
shrini
-
shrini
anish: hi
-
sugi
ok shrini. but anybody asks doubts I am not sure i could able to answer
-
shrini
just tell whatever you know
-
sugi
Ok shrini
-
shrini
note down the questions and send the answer to the mailing list later
-
shrini
thats how we can learn
-
shrini
sethu_payilagam: send your talk details to the list too
-
sugi
let me try - but please don't expect much - I am not sure about mine
-
shrini
Varun777: your talk too
-
shrini
give it a try
-
sugi
sure shrini
-
shrini
IRC is not something too technical thing
-
shrini
structure the talk like below
-
shrini
introduction to plaintext
-
shrini
why plaintext is important
-
shrini
intro to IRC
-
shrini
little history
-
shrini
about various IRC networks and various clients
-
shrini
few channels to join
-
shrini
how to enable logbot_cc
-
shrini
how to get local logs
-
shrini
why IRC is good
-
sugi
ok shrini
-
shrini
the diff between other chat platforms like slack,telegram/whatsapp etc
-
shrini
thats all
-
sugi
will try for sure
-
shrini
finally, share our daily meetings info here
-
shrini
invite the people to join here
-
sugi
ok
-
sugi
so when should I send the email?
-
shrini
now
-
shrini
or by EOD
-
sugi
to all mailing list?
-
shrini
yes
-
shrini
to kanchilug mailing list
-
shrini
kanchilug⊙fo
-
sugi
like what dhanasekar sent in that format?
-
shrini
yes
-
sugi
ok shrini I will do
-
sugi
in tamil only, right?
-
shrini
talk can be in tamil
-
shrini
mail can be in english
-
sugi
ok
-
sethu_payilagam
send your talk details to the list too - for this week db session shrini?
-
sugi
let me connect tomorrow, thanks shrini
-
shrini
yes sethu_payilagam
-
shrini
ok sugi
-
sugi
thank you all
-
sethu_payilagam
ok Shrini
-
shrini
anish: your ODOC is going tamil too
-
shrini
-
shrini
hariharan is translating to tamil and writing in kaniyam
-
anish
wow thats amazing
-
shrini
thanks for your nice works
-
anish
today i tried using python in linux
-
shrini
good
-
shrini
it will be easy
-
shrini
install bpython3
-
anish
initially i faced errors using tkinter
-
shrini
ah
-
anish
then i learnt about variables now it works
-
shrini
dont start with GUI things
-
shrini
start with writing CLI applications first
-
anish
you mean cli applications with python?
-
shrini
yes
-
shrini
learn to code CLI first
-
shrini
it will be so minimal and clean with CLI
-
anish
do you mean bash scripting
-
shrini
no bash
-
shrini
you can write the command line applications in python itself
-
anish
yes i just installed emacs today
-
shrini
super
-
shrini
-
shrini
anish: explore this easy tutorial for emacs and start using it
-
anish
ok shrini i will check
-
sethu_payilagam
i will study about it but what is emacs Shrini and anish?
-
shrini
emacs is a text editor
-
sethu_payilagam
ok ok
-
shrini
but it has an entire operating system with in
-
shrini
I am chatting here within emacs
-
shrini
I use emacs for my TODO list manager, journal, knowledge base, secrets/credentaisl manager, IRC chat client
-
shrini
few people use it as email client, RSS feed reader, music player, file manager etc
-
sethu_payilagam
wow.. thats a lot.. i will definitely read about it
-
shrini
we can extend it to anything, with tons of packages available
-
sethu_payilagam
i have seen many times you and other friends here using that term and am curious
-
shrini
Richard Stallman gave it along with GCC
-
shrini
-
anish
i tried using python with emacs and it was like using a python editor even though its not
-
shrini
-
shrini
anish: you can make emacs as a full python IDE
-
shrini
with all the autocomplete, suggesting features
-
shrini
just search for it
-
shrini
before that, use it just like a plain text editor
-
shrini
learn the org mode and its structure
-
shrini
use it for your daily journaling and taking notes
-
shrini
the soon, we start using emacs, its good for our life time
-
anish
that is cool i'll defenitely check it out
-
anish
i'll join tomorrow
-
Varun777
