mohan43u: are u available
-
mohan43u
hariharan: yes
-
hariharan
I have installed ubuntu in ssd using the 3 option without erase option in ubuntu installer
-
mohan43u
hariharan: great. did you have a seperate partition for home?
-
mohan43u
hariharan: what is your partition scheme?
-
hariharan
I have updated the ubuntu after installing
-
hariharan
Partition scheme means gpt or mbr?
-
mohan43u
hariharan: no. I mean how many partitions you have and how it was mapped, just run `fdisk -l | curl --data-binary @-
paste.rs; echo` and send the link
-
hariharan
-
hariharan
I think i messed up with the grub bootloader part
-
mohan43u
hariharan: not booting?
-
mohan43u
hariharan: which ubuntu you installed? 24.04?
-
hariharan
Before updating i have rebooted two times it booted properly
-
hariharan
After updating the ubuntu it wont booting from the windows boot loader
-
mohan43u
hariharan: window boot loader?
-
hariharan
20.04
-
hariharan
Yes
-
mohan43u
hariharan: so you mean, you boot linux through window boot loader?
-
mohan43u
hariharan: not using grub?
-
hariharan
Yes
-
hariharan
Yes
-
mohan43u
hariharan: any specific reason?
-
hariharan
I am having fear on partitioning and bootloader and bios setup
-
mohan43u
hariharan: ok, then how did you added the previous linux into windows boot loader?
-
hariharan
Previous linux is configured with grub will switch device from the boot manager to the harddrive then ill access the ubuntu via grub
-
hariharan
That not a straight way to touch nose but i used it
-
hariharan
After ubuntu installation ubuntu shown directly on windows boot manager i thought that I'll able to boot with it. But after ubunutu update it showned its own face
-
mohan43u
hariharan: I'm confused now, as I understand, in previous OS, you kept 'windows boot manager' as the default bootloader, and 'ubuntu grub' was a second bootloader
-
mohan43u
hariharan: now something went wrong
-
mohan43u
hariharan: am I right?
-
hariharan
Yes you are absolutely right
-
mohan43u
hariharan: what went wrong in the new install?
-
hariharan
Forgot to complete the grub setup and disable windows boot manager
-
mohan43u
hariharan: you mean, new ubuntu install didn't setup grub? there is option to disable grub update in the ubuntu install step? or ubuntu failed to install/update grub?
-
hariharan
I'll booted old linux and get you the partition scheme you asked
-
mohan43u
hariharan: no need. I understand you have home in seperate partition, that is enough
-
mohan43u
hariharan: in boot menu, do you see grub? or you only see 'window boot manager'?
-
hariharan
In boot menu windows boot manager will show first
-
hariharan
There i will choose advanced option to boot ubuntu there
-
mohan43u
hariharan: that means you see ubuntu in the boot menu, then you should be able to boot the new ubuntu, am I right?
-
hariharan
Yes i thought like that but its not working
-
hariharan
I expected ubuntu to boot when clicking
-
mohan43u
hariharan: what error you get when you select ubuntu from boot menu?
-
hariharan
But blank screen only shown
-
hariharan
Then i noticed no hard drive activity
-
mohan43u
hariharan: do you see the grub menu when you select ubuntu in boot menu?
-
hariharan
No grub
-
hariharan
Only blank
-
mohan43u
hariharan: no grub? can you just take a screenshot of your boot menu and share here?
-
hariharan
Irc supports image sharing?
-
mohan43u
hariharan: no, upload it to your gdrive or somehwere, share the gdrive link
-
hariharan
Okay i start a tlc thread that will be fine
-
mohan43u
hariharan: that will better
-
hariharan
In the mean time i tried to add new os from my existing grub boot loader it started booting but endup with kernal panic
